Momentum for the Arts - Augusta

The Georgia Center for Nonprofits is proud to partner with The Community Foundation for the Central Savannah River Area, Knox Foundation, Augusta Regional Collaboration Project, Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, Trustees of the Academy of Richmond County, and the Georgia Council for the Arts via funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to bring Momentum—an innovative approach to capacity building—to Georgia's arts nonprofit community. The goal of the Georgia Council for the Arts Momentum project is to increase the impact and sustainability of arts nonprofits across Georgia by improving their capacity to think and act more strategically, and to function more effectively as a leadership team.

Momentum is the first and largest project of its kind in Georgia and was developed by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits to support the work of nonprofits addressing complex issues in communities around the state. The process actively supports and measures growth at the individual, team, and organization-level around the following goals:

Enhancing Organizational Strategic CapacityMomentum will help participating teams build capacity to think and act more strategically, thus enabling them to increase their organization’s performance and impact.

Developing Effective LeadersMomentum will help leaders become more strategic, results-oriented, and focused on constant improvement because of their access to top ideas in the sector and our direct support and coaching in implementing those ideas.

Fostering Collaborations – Momentum will help nonprofits develop their ability to develop productive partnerships.

Promoting Sustainability – Momentum will help build lasting capacity within these nonprofits through peer network creation, extending the reach of the program over time.

Momentum is designed to help participating nonprofits create actionable high-impact strategy, make dynamic data-driven decisions together with their board and management team, and implement enduring systems to manage and measure results.

Throughout the two-year process, organizations work both individually and within cohort groups to share, support, and learn from one another. Specifically, the Momentum experience includes an organizational assessment, a customized development plan, an 18-month performance management training program, 20 hours of implementation coaching, and mini-grants to support the implementation of strategic and operational changes.

Momentum is a proven process that leaves organizations well-equipped to manage and sustain higher performance levels over time.

“Since GCN launched Momentum, I have seen undeniable transformations in these nonprofits. From the quality of their proposals to their ability to deliver their mission, organizations have professionalized, increased their efficiency, and are ultimately increasing their impact in the community. GCN has brought these organizations together in a way that hasn’t happened here before.”
