Engaging Your PeopleGeorgia Nonprofit NOW, Summer 2012
This snapshot of GCN’s national study on employee engagement, conducted by Opportunity Knocks, reveals the issues affecting your work force—including the reasons 45% of sector workers say they plan to leave their current job.
Engaging the Nonprofit Workforce: Mission, Management and Emotion is a national research study GCN conducted, via Opportunity Knocks, to better understand the ways in which nonprofit employees are engaged and the impact of engagement—and disengagement—upon individuals, organizations and the communities they serve. While our findings altogether paint a picture of a motivated and mission-driven workforce, they also raise warning signs about disengagement—particularly in the areas of unmet expectations for professional development and advancement, and the rate of emotional burnout.
The report identifies the key management and organizational factors that affect engagement, and offers recommendations to help identify better strategies to engage employees, avoid burnout, and ultimately decrease turnover rates.
