Gearing Up and Counting Down To Georgia Gives Day 2013

This article pertains to last year's Georgia Gives Day. For information about Georgia Gives Day 2014, click here.

In its inaugural year, GCN’s Georgia Gives initiative brought together 1,346 nonprofits from around the state with a free online platform that extends fundraising capabilities, energizes supporters, inspires new donors, and, to date, has raised more than $900,000 and engaged more than 7,000 new donors—with 100% of every donation going directly to a nonprofit. As we ramp up for our second annual Gives Day on Nov. 13, we’ve put together a rundown of our plans, the reasons you need to be a part of them, and the simple ways you can use GA Gives to build an online giving movement for your nonprofit.

A massive campaign is building buzz around the state. To build excitement ahead of GA Gives Day, we’re planning a statewide multimedia and PR blitz to drive the public to GAgives.org on Nov. 13. It’s made possible by a coalition of the state’s leading broadcasters and our online media partners, advertising and PR team, elected officials, corporate supporters, and community leaders, all poised to spread the message across every media channel around the state: in public service announcements, digital billboards, home page banners, ATM screens, social media channels, community events, and local businesses.

In March, Governor Nathan Deal proclaimed November 13, 2013, as Georgia Gives Day, making it an official part of Georgia’s cultural calendar, and joining a wide range of elected officials—more all the time—to recognize and support the mission of GA Gives. Since its launch in 2012, those officials have included Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Secretary of State Brian Kemp, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, and mayors from across the state.

We’ve made online giving even easier. Our GA Gives Day team has been working hard to make online fundraising—and giving—easier than ever. GAgives.org is now fully mobile, and donations are immediately shareable on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. A new “Quick Picks” feature gives donors the ability to choose a cause they care about—like animals, education, or the environment—and give donations that are shared among nonprofits addressing that issue.

More than $200,000 in incentive funds and prizes available to participating nonprofits. Thanks to the generosity of our corporate and foundation partners, nonprofits participating in GA Gives Day are eligible for a share of $200,000 in prize money, secured to fuel giving by both incentivizing the public to give, and challenging nonprofits to activate their “cause champions.”

Step-by-step tools to help your nonprofit maximize the day. More than 1,500 nonprofits are participating across the state—with more registering each day (up until Oct. 16). Every action, by each nonprofit, builds overall public engagement with GA Gives Day, and we’re offering tools and ongoing support to help every organization succeed: an active schedule of onsite and online training opportunities—with plenty to come over the next month—along with a robust set of online resources, including FAQs, PR and social media toolkits, a step-by-step tutorial to build and optimize the features on your GAgives.org profile page, and more. Meanwhile, weekly GA Gives emails highlight profile-building tips, donor engagement ideas, the latest news on incentive and prize funding, and the ways GCN is building buzz with help from our media partners. It’s never been easier to register and customize your profile, plan your outreach and social media campaigns, and activate your supporters to engage new donors with giving campaigns of their own, using a newly updated online Nonprofit Toolkit.

And to help you take advantage of the opportunity, we’ve been reaching out to participants who used the first GA Gives Day in 2012 to gain new donors, new exposure, and new fundraising energy—our GA Gives All-Stars—and asking for the secret to their success. But you’ve got to be “in it to win it,” so sign up now at GAgives.org.
