Georgia nonprofits raise $2.2 million on Georgia Gives Day 2014

ATLANTA — Nov. 14, 2014 — As the clock struck midnight on the third annual Georgia Gives Day, the tally stood at a record-breaking $2,296,759. Today, more than 2,000 nonprofits across the state celebrate the virtual outpouring of support from 17,742 Georgians—the biggest day of giving in our state's history. Donations ranged from $1 to $50,000, supporting nonprofits of all sizes and cause areas, from all corners of the state.

Thursday's success continues to build on momentum from the first two years of the event, raising more money than the first two Georgia Gives Days combined. The inaugural year in 2012 raised $782,225 in a single day from 7,709 donations. In 2013, giving rose to $1.4 million from 11,257 donations.

The GAgivesday.org website, which provides a year-round online giving platform for nonprofits, has now raised more than $4.8 million since launching in 2012.

Presented by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, the goal of the Georgia Gives Day initiative is to bring the state together as one community to raise as much money and awareness as possible for Georgia nonprofits in a 24-hour period, with 100 percent of the funds going directly to the participating organizations.

"We are happy and grateful to say that, once again, Georgians have stepped up and supported the many causes that are critical to the quality of life in communities across our state," said Karen Beavor, president and CEO of the Georgia Center for Nonprofits.

Beyond the dollars raised, Georgia Gives Day's continues to raise greater awareness for the work and worth of nonprofits in strengthening Georgia communities and providing opportunities for nonprofit organizations to connect with new donors who are passionate about their cause and looking to give back.

"Our state's nonprofits are among the best in the country. Because of your generosity, they will serve more kids, protect more of the environment, help more people in need, provide amazing cultural experiences, and generally make our state a great place to live, work and play," Beavor said.

The growing success of the Georgia Gives Day initiative is fueled by a generous group of corporate sponsors and media partners: Ames Scullin O'Haire, Arby's Foundation, AutoTrader.com, Chick-fil-A Foundation, Click & Pledge, The Coca-Cola Company, Comcast, The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Cox Enterprises, Cox Media Group, Edelman, Encyclomedia, Fiserv/Popmoney, Georgia Association of Broadcasters, Georgia Cable Association, Georgia Power, Knight Foundation, Mohawk, Outdoor Advertising Association of Georgia, SunTrust Foundation, Wells Fargo, WSB-TV Family 2 Family, and WXIA-TV 11Alive.

The Georgia Gives initiative once again received the endorsements of Governor Nathan Deal and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, along with other local and state officials.

Although Georgia Gives Day has passed, nonprofits continue to welcome donations through the Georgia Gives website, GAgives.org, which serves as a live, year-round resource where the public can search for and support the local charities that touch our lives every day, and a free tool for nonprofits to use for their annual fundraising campaigns.
