OPENING PROGRAM & RECEPTION What Institutional Funders Really Want: How Can We Work Together to Tackle Difficult Societal Problems?

The kick-off event is an opportunity to first meet your small CEO roundtable group. You will then mix and mingle with all program participants, and listen to advice from some of Atlanta’s most respected foundation leaders through a short program and reception. The program will include an intimate, candid discussion with funders on how to work together to tackle difficult societal problems. They will also offer practical and timely advice on how to approach philanthropists to fund their mission. Join us for an informative evening, connect with program peers and other influential leaders, and kick off your program experience.

Better financial decision-making begins with greater financial awareness. This program will provide guidance and tools to help nonprofit leaders manage and make critical decisions through uncertain and changing times. More than ever, it is critical that nonprofit organizations have a strong grasp of their financial situations and how to navigate their futures. Learn how nonprofit leaders including both staff and board can identify risk, identify and quantify options, and communicate an organization’s financial story to funders and supporters. As an added bonus, CEOs may invite a key board member to the workshop portion (8:30 to 10:30 am) of this session.

Nonprofit leader burnout will be addressed as well.Learn what nonprofit leaders can do to surround themselves with the people and support they need to stay energized and engaged as effective leaders in the face of complex challenges.

The focus on scale and efficiencies in the social sector has dramatically increased. However, scale is hard to achieve due to lack of capacity and capital. This session will discuss the importance of partnerships as a means to achieving scale and increasing impact. We will discuss case studies of successful collaborations and critical success factors to maximize impact.

Competition for dollars is fierce. Dollars frequently follow credible organizations and people. Credible board members are attracted to serve with great people and organizations. What does it take to attract board members of “influence”? Hear from some of Atlanta’s most respected board members on what factors led to their service on nonprofit boards, and listen to what motivated them to go deep in their commitment to this board’s service. How did they, along with their CEOs, work together to sell their organization to major donors? Then, hear from nonprofit CEOs how their process of cultivating and raising the bar on the skill and influence of their boards. How do you go about a realistic process for defining a recruitment process that can attract “A” players? What is an “A” player for your organization vs. those for other organizations with greater reach and resources? How do CEOs and boards go about how the process of recruiting and retaining the best board members and developing the best boards?

CLOSING PROGRAM & RECEPTION The Leadership Journey: Challenges and Rewards of Advancing Mission
June 5, 2012 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Atlanta Botanical Garden
This evening program and reception will celebrate the work of CEO program participants. CEOs will be encouraged to share some of what they have learned and how they plan to continue to advance themselves and their organizations. We will bring in high-achieving Georgia leaders to talk candidly about their successes and challenges along the long and hard journey of leadership. Participants will be both celebrated and also challenged to continue in the courageous pursuit of making our community organizations stronger and, in turn, making our communities better places to live. This evening promises to be an evening full of inspiration and community building, forging relationships with fellow leaders for years to come. CEOs may invite a key board member to attend.
