Why This Program is Important:
Child sexual abuse is a growing epidemic in America, plaguing all socioeconomic classes and races. 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before age 18. Non-profit organizations servicing our youth are often attractive to these offenders, since many provide venues and services that allow them the opportunity to interact with children. Although protecting children is of the upmost importance to these organizations, many openly acknowledge that their employees and volunteers do not adequately know how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Therefore, it is important that your non-profit organization have effective training, organizational policies and procedures in place to keep the chidlren you serve safe.

Stewards of Children:
Brought to you by the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy, Stewards of Children is a revolutionary sexual abuse prevention training program. It educates adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly towards child sexual abuse. The program is designed specifically for organizations that serve children and adolescents, providing prevent training for staff, volunteers, and interested adults. The program is a one-time three hour course, teachign seven principles of sexual abuse prevention through an interactive video, workbook, and group discussion. Afterwards, your organization will understand:

• The facts of child sexual abuse
• The signs of sexual abuse
• How child sexual abuse happens
• That adults are responsible for the protection of children
• The importance of screening staff/volunteers who work with children and adolescents
• The importance of minimizing one-adult/one-child situations and developing well-conceived policies in youth-serving organizations
• The proactive role that communities need to take to protect children and educate others about child sexual abuse
• What resources are available to react responsibly to child sexual abuse
