Nonprofit Leaders Meet at White House

4/15/2005
The White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives hosted a meeting of major charities and associations of foundations to discuss oversight reforms being considered by Congress.

At the April 15 meeting, Director Jim Towey asked Diana Aviv and two IS members, Brian Gallagher, president and CEO of United Way of America, and Charles Gould, president and CEO of Volunteers of America, to give opening remarks sharing each organization's work on accountability and governance.

Leaders from the charitable community asked White House officials to urge Congress to pass charitable giving incentives and shared their belief that reforms should not create unreasonable administrative burdens or curtail non-cash contributions.
