Nonprofit University Structure
Nonprofit University is divided up into three learning levels that are organized around key nonprofit management areas, general and functionally specific competencies, staffing roles and recommended courses.
The framework is identified collaboratively by nonprofit leaders and partners in educational and workforce development professions.
Nonprofit University’s Learning Paths
The following key management areas form the backbone of Nonprofit University’s courses and other educational products and services:
- Development and Fundraising
- Finance
- Management and Leadership
- Program Management
- Volunteer Management
- Board Governance
- Human Resources
- Information Technology
- Marketing
- Advocacy
In addition to these primary management areas, two additional “cross-functional” learning paths include
- Early Stage Nonprofit Development
- Nonprofit Administrative and Operational Tools
Nonprofit University offers courses in each area at three levels:
1. Essentials
These courses lay a comprehensive knowledge foundation for content and management areas. Courses will be most appropriate for newer staff, seasoned employees who would like a refresher or are beginning to investigate new professional areas, and for managers who wish to gain a better understanding of a particular management area.
2. Advanced
These courses will be targeted to more experienced staff, and will support and build upon foundational knowledge, skills and aptitiudes.
3. Mastery
These courses will be targeted to the most experienced practitioners, and will include peer learning, complex application exercises and other guided discovery learning experiences.
