High Potential Diverse Leaders Program

  








The High-Potential Diverse Leaders Program, presented by the Allstate Foundation and the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, is a leadership development program designed to provide a diverse group of nonprofit professionals in the Southeast (i.e. Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama) with the skills needed to assume executive level responsibilities within the sector. Specifically, the Program is designed to provide participants with:

  • Information and management tools they can utilize in their career;
  • The opportunity to sharpen their skills areas key to nonprofit success;
  • A place to re-ignite their passion for the causes and communities they are working to help;
  • A well-established peer network within the Southeast’s nonprofit sector;

Eligible Program candidates will be minority nonprofit professionals (i.e. Black, Hispanic, Native American or Asian) with at least 3 years but no more than 10 years of experience in the sector. You must be prepared to fully participate in the Program - committing the time and energy to take full advantage of the opportunity, while balancing the demands of your current position.

Program Details

Symposium Series
The topics of the workshops will be devoted to 1) increasing general areas of skill needed to succeed in a leadership position and; 2) analyzing local, regional and national trends in the nonprofit sector that are key to navigating the path to a leadership position. Participants will attend a total of six sessions. 

Following each session, the participants will have regular opportunities to engage peer learning.  During these sessions, participants bring to the table issues they are grappling with from their own organizations, discuss news and trends affecting the nonprofit environment, and the challenges they face in their career.

All sessions take place at Healthcare Georgia Foundation, 50 Hurt Plaza, Suite 1100, Atlanta, Georgia  30303 from 9am to 12pm.

1st Session--Leading Organizational Performance: December 11, 2007

2nd Session--Leading Strategy: January 29, 2008

3rd Session--Leading Teams: March 4, 2008

4th Session--Leading & Cultivating Powerful Relationships: April 1, 2008

5th Session--The Brand Called You: April 29, 2008

6th Session--Establishing & Managing a Vision: June 24, 2008

Informational Resources
   
The Program will offer case studies, research, articles, current news and chat areas, providing the participants continuous professional development support.

Conference
Participants will be given the opportunity to attend the Georgia Nonprofit Summit, the Southeast's largest gathering of nonprofit executives, board members, foundation staff, government decision-makers, and corporate leaders.

Consultant Calls
The purpose of these quarterly calls is to exchange ideas, peer-to-peer problem solve and information share in a coaching environment. A professional consultant will lead the calls and, on occasion, outside experts will be invited into the calls to better explore aspects of leadership development.

Networking Events
The Program will bring all participants—along with established leaders in the nonprofit sector—together through two events designed to provide a structured environment to identify commonalities, exchange best practices, and identify opportunities to share resources or collaborate in endeavors.

  • Winter 2008: Camaraderie, Cocktails and Conversations
    February 28, 2008     5:30-7:30 p.m.  Location: Margaret Mitchell House and Museum
     
    Relax and network over cocktails with some of Atlanta’s finest philanthropic leaders.

  • Summer 2008: Panel Discussion followed by Camaraderie, Cocktails and Conversations
    June 18, 2008        
    4:00-5:30 p.m. (Panel Discussion)
    5:30-7:30 p.m. (Camaraderie, Cocktails and Conversations)        Location: TBD
                            

    A great city is only as great as its people. This highly acclaimed panel of leaders will discuss their thoughts on some of the toughest and most important issues facing our community today. After the panel discussion, relax and network over cocktails with some of Atlanta’s finest philanthropic leaders.
