Statewide Organizational Assessment Program for Healthcare Organizations
Healthcare Georgia Foundation and the Georgia Center for Nonprofits
In keeping with its dedication to supporting nonprofit healthcare organizations that serve Georgia's underserved individuals and communities, the Healthcare Georgia Foundation is partnering a third year with the Georgia Center for Nonprofits (the Center) in delivering a capacity-building program across the state. This is the third opportunity for 18 organizations to participate in a process of organizational assessment.
The Program
An organizational assessment is a chance for your board and staff to
-
Create a common picture of your organization’s strengths and challenges in key management, governance and operational areas.
-
Prioritize recommended actions to strengthen your organizational infrastructure.
-
Create an action plan to implement the necessary actions.
-
Address issues in your organization before they reach crisis level.
-
An organizational assessment is NOT a strategic plan. It allows you to focus on the infrastructure needed to build the capacity of the organization to meet its mission, not on the programs to do so.
The Organization’s Commitment
This is an opportunity to learn about your organization without using funds from your operational budget. This voluntary assessment program, a $3500 value, will be provided at no dollar cost to the nonprofit organizations selected to participate.
To have a successful assessment experience your board and staff will need to be involved throughout the process. On average, an assessment can be completed within three months of the organization’s selection with at least four hours being needed from your board during that time period.
The Assessment Process
After an introductory visit from a Center staff person, your organization will be matched with a Center-affiliated consultant to work with you on the assessment. The consultant will lead the organization through the phases of
-
Information-gathering from board and staff
-
Consensus on the major strengths and challenges
-
Consensus on action steps
-
Report creation
Workshop Series
Following the assessment process, participating organizations will be invited to attend a series of workshops focusing on a variety of nonprofit management related topics. Many of the topics will be based on the participating organizations' priorities established during the assessment process. The workshop series will take place over an 18-month period.
The Benefits Received by the Original Organizations
Below are some of the benefits from the assessment process identified by a sampling of the 15 organizations who participated in this program last year:
-
Five new board members were added.
-
Board members understand what is expected of them and are more active in committees.
-
The board has become active in fund raising.
-
Board became energized and participated actively in subsequent strategic plan creation.
The Selection Process
Eighteen participating organizations will be selected from a pool of applicants whose primary mission is health promotion and disease prevention, and who operate as direct, client-patient service providers for underserved Georgia communities. The 18 participating healthcare nonprofits will be selected from both metro Atlanta (40 percent) and greater Georgia (60 percent).
The Application Process
This program has passed it's deadline for submitting applications, please check back next year, thanks for your interest.
