Cindy Cheatham
VP of Consulting Services – Georgia Center for Nonprofits

Cindy is a recognized Atlanta community leader.  As VP of Consulting Services for the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, Cindy leads strategic consulting services for the Center, providing services directly to clients in organizational development, board development and planning while also overseeing GCN consulting services. Most recently, Cindy was Venture Catalyst and Director of Business Development at Georgia Tech’s Advanced Technology Development Center (http://www.atdc.org/) where she provided strategic advice to business owners to help them succeed. She is a former management consultant with Bain & Company and previously ran the corporate programs of New York Cares. A frequent speaker, Cindy has developed and led award-winning management development programs. She was a nominee for WIT’s Woman of the Year in Technology and was selected to participate in the 2010 class of Leadership Atlanta.

Neil Sklarew
Senior Consultant – Georgia Center for Nonprofits

Neil’s organization development consulting and management experience spans more than 30 years with nonprofit and government agencies, and in the private sector. He has provided management, organizational consulting, and coaching services as both an internal and external consultant. His external experiences include organization assessment, board development, strategic planning, performance management, change management, team building, leadership coaching, conflict resolution and group facilitation. As an internal consultant, Neil has facilitated large system organization change, planning and restructuring of organizations, project team building, executive coaching, and group processes, among others. Neil is a faculty member of the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland’s International Gestalt Coaching Program and faculty chair for the Gestalt International Study Center’s Leadership Development for Nonprofit Organizations.

Karen Beavor
President & CEO – Georgia Center for Nonprofits

As President and CEO of the Georgia Center for Nonprofits since 1998, Karen has led GCN’s growth into a leading state association empowering nonprofits through education, advocacy, research, consulting and business support services. Karen has served as a board member or advisory board member of a variety of civic and nonprofit organizations including the Unemployment Services Trust; National Nonprofit Risk Management Center; and The Foundation Center – Atlanta. Karen has received the Martin Luther King Leadership award and the Harvard Business School Club of Atlanta’s Community Leader Award. She is a member of the 2000 class of Leadership Atlanta and 2003 Coca-Cola Diversity Leadership Academy, and a graduate of Agnes Scott College.

Kathy Bremer
Managing Director – BoardWalk Consulting

Kathy Bremer has spent her entire career raising aspirations in corporate, nonprofit and community settings. She is known for her tenacious pursuit of excellence, whether on behalf of clients, colleagues or the larger community. Kathy joined BoardWalk after eight years as Partner and Atlanta Managing Director with Porter Novelli, where she led a ten-fold growth in revenues and profits. Clients she served personally include such best-in-class organizations as the national offices of American Cancer Society and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Aflac, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta Women’s Foundation and Georgia-Pacific. Kathy’s commitment to the nonprofit sector is pervasive. She has chaired or served on over a dozen nonprofit boards. She recently completed a four-year term as board chair of the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, and she currently chairs the Board of CHRIS Kids and serves on the American Cancer Society Patient Navigator Cabinet and several nonprofit boards. She recently chaired the capital campaign of her church. Kathy is a frequent speaker on nonprofit and career issues, and a facilitator of strategic planning for numerous nonprofits.

Bobbi Cleveland
Executive Director – Tull Foundation

Barbara T. (Bobbi) Cleveland became the first executive director of the Tull Charitable Foundation in 1987. During her years in Atlanta, Bobbi has served on the board of directors of a broad range of nonprofit organizations.  Her primary focus has been on volunteering with organizations that serve at-risk children and youth.  In 2001, she helped launch the Family Connection Partnership and served on its Executive Committee for seven years.  In 2003, she was instrumental in the founding of Voices for Georgia’s Children, a statewide child advocacy organization.  She also serves on the Board of the Atlanta Education Fund. Bobbi has been selected to participate in Leadership Atlanta, Leadership Georgia, and the Regional Leadership Institute.  She has been chosen by the YWCA of Greater Atlanta for its Academy of Women Achievers, was recognized by Atlanta Woman magazine as one of the 2007 25 Power Women, and received the 2008 Revolutions Award from the Georgia Center for Nonprofits.

Kathy Colbenson
CEO – CHRIS Kids, Inc.

Kathy Colbenson has been CEO of CHRIS Kids since 1987. Under her leadership, CHRIS Kids has grown from a $400,000 annual budget serving 40 children a year to a $9,000,000 annual budget serving more than 1,100 children, youth and families a year with a comprehensive family of services.  Dedicated to unlocking human potential, CHRIS Kids was founded by the Junior League of Atlanta as a Menninger Foundation Demonstration Project in 1981 to bridge gaps in Georgia’s foster care and juvenile justice systems for children with emotional and behavioral challenges. Through its Family of Services, CHRIS Kids offers Behavioral Health services, creates Safe Homes and Environments, builds Strong Communities and offers Education & Training that promote best practices. The organization helps children and families entrenched in Georgia’s child welfare continuum including foster care, adoption disruption, intensive psychiatric treatment programs, psychiatric hospitals, and juvenile detention centers. Through the CHRIS Counseling Center, CHRIS Kids provides therapy and counseling designed to promote healing from trauma and help kids learn how to behave responsibly at home, at school, and in the community. Kathy is active in dozens of Leadership Atlanta activities. She has led CHRIS Kids to win numerous awards including the 1998 Managing for Excellence Award, the 2007 Neighborhood Builder Award, Guardian Angel Award, and the Magnolia Award for Special Achievement in Affordable Housing. Kathy received the Dan Bradley Humanitarian Award from the Human Rights Campaign and the POW Award from Womenetics for Innovative Leadership.

Ann Cramer
Director – IBM Americas, IBM Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Affairs

Ann’s commitment to and involvement with children and youth have been a lifelong journey. Her current job with IBM allows her to continue her work with the improvement of conditions for families because of IBM’s historic involvement with and investment in local communities. Ann currently serves as chair of the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education (GPEE), the Carter Center Board of Councilors, Atlanta Partners for Education and the Council on Foundations Public Policy Committee and is on the Council’s board and past chair of Communities in Schools-Georgia, and the Georgia Chamber’s Education Committee, Voices for Georgia’s Children, and is on the Executive Committee for the US Chamber’s Institute for Competitive Workforce and BCLC, the Conference Board’s Business and Education Council, Metro Atlanta Chamber Education Committee and Project GRAD Board. She serves on several non-profit organization boards including the Woodruff Arts Center, the Alliance Theatre Company, Georgia Shakespeare Festival, the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, Public Broadcasting Atlanta (PBA), the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and others. In 2009, Ann was the first to receive the “Essence of Atlanta” Award at the 41st Anniversary of Outstanding Atlanta. She was recently honored with the Georgia Center for Nonprofits 2011 Revolutions Award for Legendary Philanthropist and named by Atlanta Woman magazine as the Power Woman of the Year, recognized as one of “25 Atlantans to Watch,” inducted into the Business Hall of Fame, awarded Georgia’s 1st Visionary Leadership Award, and given Leadership Atlanta’s Legacy of Leadership Award.

Jeff Edmondson
Managing Director – The Strive Network

Jeff Edmondson is the managing director of the Strive Network, a national cradle-to-career initiative that brings together leaders in Pre-K-12 schools, higher education, business and industry, community organizations, government leaders, parents and other stakeholders who are committed to helping children succeed from birth through careers. Edmondson most recently served as executive director of the Strive Partnership in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, a partnership of postsecondary, K-12, business, philanthropic, non-profit, and civic organizations in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky aimed at increasing educational aspirations, achievement, and attainment of students throughout the region. He also served as the foundation officer for KnowledgeWorks Foundation. In this role, Edmondson was responsible for assisting the President & CEO by leading and providing support for priority initiatives, communicating on the vision and strategies of the Foundation locally and nationally, and managing the relationship with the Board of Directors. Prior to joining the Foundation, Edmondson served as a Program Assistant at the 21st Century School Fund where he conducted research, published papers, and wrote legislation on local and national policy issues related to school facilities.

Laurie Grant Nichols
Managing Director – DMP Executive Search

Laurie brings more than twenty years of broad non-profit experience to the retained executive search business.  She has served as CEO of Hands On Georgia, Chief Development Officer for The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, and Director of Major Gifts for United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta.  Laurie is a career development professional and has worked collaboratively with thousands of individuals in career transition - providing career counseling, testing, and assessment services.  She recently earned the Transformational Nonprofit Leadership Advanced Certificate from the Center for Social Leadership in Washington, D.C. and is the Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Georgia Council for International Visitors.  She serves on the Advisory Board of the Assistance League of Atlanta, is Past President of the Georgia Executive Women’s Network, and has served on the faculty of Nonprofit University at the Georgia Center for Nonprofits.  Laurie received her B.A. from The College of William and Mary in Virginia and her M.S. from The University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

David Greco
Vice President – Nonprofit Finance Fund

David Greco is Vice President for the Western Region and manages NFF’s Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles and San Francisco offices. He is responsible for leading NFF’s lending, capital grants, asset-building programs, and customized consulting services in the Western United States. Mr. Greco brings more than 20 years of experience in building nonprofit programs and earned income ventures. Prior to joining NFF, he served as Vice President of the Youth Leadership Institute and built YLI’s national training and consulting services helping to bring youth and adults together to create more just and sustainable communities. For five years, Mr. Greco served as Senior Marketing Manager at Jossey-Bass Publishers where he launched a new social leadership publishing line. Mr. Greco has also served as the Corporate and Foundation Relations Manager for the National Wildlife Federation, and Director of Programs for the Horatio Alger Association working with economically disadvantaged youth. He is the author of “Nonprofit Financial Management” featured in “Nonprofit Management 101: A Complete and Practical Guide for Leaders and Professionals.” Mr. Greco is active in the community and serves in a number of volunteer positions including the San Francisco Chapter of the Sierra Club, Full Circle Fund, and a Board Member for Next Step Homes, a national affordable housing network.

Sam Pettway
Founding Director – BoardWalk Consulting

Sam Pettway is the founding director of BoardWalk Consulting, a firm committed to building strong foundations for nonprofits.® Since 1977, Sam has advised scores of leadership teams in entities ranging from start-ups to mature multinationals, both for-profit and not-for-profit. Since founding BoardWalk in 2002, he has worked with clients as varied as international relief agencies, national foundations, regional trade associations, and local nonprofits of many kinds. All of his clients share an interest in maximizing their impact through strategy-based insights, services, tools and people. Throughout his career, Sam has been an active trustee of numerous nonprofits and associations. Sam is a frequent speaker and facilitator on issues of board governance, executive leadership and management transition. He has written for Harvard Business Review, Boardmember magazine, and Directors & Boards, and his articles have been redistributed widely by both BoardSource and Guidestar.

Alicia Philipp
President – The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta

Alicia Philipp is president of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, one of the largest  and fastest growing philanthropic service organizations in the country. With assets of more than $625 million, The Community Foundation strengthens the 23-county Atlanta region by providing quality services to donors and innovative leadership on community issues. Named as one of the “100 Most Influential Atlantans” by the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Philipp has led the Foundation’s grantmaking, fundraising and collaboration with donors, nonprofits and community leaders for more than 30 years. Under her leadership, The Community Foundation has grown from $7 million in 1977 to more than $625 million today and facilitates more planned gifts than any other locally based nonprofit organization in the Southeast. Philipp received the 2010 John H. Allen Humanitarian Award from Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters. She also received the Community Leadership Award by the Harvard Business School (HBS) Club of Atlanta and the Atlanta Women’s Foundation Shining Star award.

John W. Stephenson
Executive Director – J. Bulow Campbell Foundation

He is the Executive Director of the J. Bulow Campbell Foundation, a private charitable foundation established in 1940 through the estate of Atlanta businessman, J. Bulow Campbell. The Atlanta philanthropy awards grants in education, human services, youth development, arts and cultural institutions, and Christian-based charities. The Foundation awards approximately $25 million each year, primarily through substantial capital grants. Mr. Stephenson also serves as Executive Director of the Courts Foundation and the Fraser-Parker Foundation, both Atlanta-based family foundations. In addition, he is a consultant to the Georgia Health Foundation in Atlanta. Prior to joining the Campbell Foundation in 1985, he was Vice President for Development at Emory University, where he was employed for 12 years as Assistant to the President and Vice President. Mr. Stephenson received his bachelor’s degree from Emory University in Economics in 1970 and his master’s degree in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University in 1973. He has served as President of the Southeastern Council of Foundations, President of the Emory Credit Union, Chairman of the Kappa Alpha Order Education Foundation, and member of the Board of Trustees of Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School. He served on the National Selection Committee for the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation for three years and on the Regional Selection Committee for the White House Fellows for five years.
