About the winners

Suzanne Boas
President of Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Atlanta
Revolutions Award: Outstanding Nonprofit Leader

During a time of unprecedented demand for financial counseling and education, Suzanne Boas has transformed Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Atlanta (CCCS) from a small, local community agency into a national nonprofit recognized for innovation and measurable results.

Suzanne transformed the agency into a national financial literacy powerhouse by investing in technology and embracing new ideas. Utilizing telephone and Internet technology, CCCS serves people nationwide 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

When Suzanne joined CCCS in 1991, the agency had 13 counselors who met in-person with clients. Counselors used pencils, paper and calculators to help clients learn to reduce debt. Today, CCCS has more than 550 employees in four states using technology to provide a variety of services nationwide.

In 2009, the agency provided foreclosure prevention counseling to more than 105,000 homeowners, which translates to more than 70,000 families avoiding foreclosure.

Suzanne’s efforts serve as an inspiration to future leaders who want to have a measurable impact on their communities. She has worked tirelessly to promote the value of financial literacy, created an internal culture of achievement and risk-taking, and set high professional standards for the organization. She sets a sterling example by committing herself to CCCS’s values of integrity, compassion and innovation.

Camp Twin Lakes
Revolutions Award: Outstanding Nonprofit Organization

The mission of Camp Twin Lakes is to provide places and paths for children with serious illnesses and life challenges to experience the joys of childhood and grow their confidence and capabilities. Prior to the establishment of Camp Twin Lakes in 1993, programs for kids with special medical and physical needs were not adaptable or accessible.

Camp Twin Lakes revolutionized accessible camping in Georgia.  Camp Twin Lakes camps have transformed more than 25,000 campers by teaching new skills and life lessons such as management of their daily treatments or diets; mobility challenges; stress; as well as self-esteem activities and peer support building strong and confident campers.

Through collaboration with more than 40 partners, Camp Twin Lakes annually provides high-quality experiences to more than 8,500 campers and engaging 2,000 volunteers.  Collaboration minimizes duplication and encourages the sharing of best practices.  In 2010, in addition to 3 new partnerships, Camp Twin Lakes will develop 3 new camps with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta; one for children with epilepsy; one for amputee children; and a third for children struggling with obesity.

The Center congratulates all of the 2010 Revolutions Award winners and nominees!
