A button is not a strategy, so how do you ensure successful online fundraising? This workshop will present best practices for increasing donations through your website and an introduction to raising money through other online channels.  There are literally dozens of new techniques you can use to increase your online fundraising. At the same time, you need to know what pitfalls could quickly alienate a potential donor. In this session we will highlight some of the latest technologies, techniques, and best practices for online fundraising while providing information on donation processing tools, online fundraising services, and security.

Learning objectives:

  • Improving the Ask: What makes a successful online ask? How to place your donation buttons and why it matters.
  • Cross Channel Fundraising: The medium is the message, but make sure the messages match. Differences in online vs off-line giving.
  • Donation processing tools: Brief overview of options for starting to receive donations online.
  • The Giving Experience: How to create effective forms (Amnesty International removed the prefix field (Mr., Mrs, Dr.) from their online donation form and improved the number of people completing the form by 30%)
  • Handling information securely: Important checklist to go over with your website provider (secure pages, PCI compliance). Handling sensitive information.
  • More Opportunities than Your Website: Facebook, branded commerce, nonprofit malls and other ways to raise money online
