Nonprofit Scholarships For Summer 2007
The Harvard Business School Club of Atlanta, HBSCA, is pleased to announce plans to award up to six scholarships to attend one-week Executive Education Programs in the Social Enterprise Initiative (SEI) at Harvard Business School.
The two courses eligible are “Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management” (SPNM) and “Performance Measurement for Effective Management of Nonprofit Organizations” (PMNO), with a maximum of four scholarships per course.
Winners will be selected by February 2007, and will be the guests of the Club at the annual community leadership dinner, hosted by HBCSA in late winter 2007. The courses will be held on the HBS campus in Boston: PMNO on May 7--10, 2007; the SPNM dates will be announced shortly.
Harvard Business School’s Social Enterprise Initiative was created to respond to the growing nonprofit sector and its complex relationships with the wider business world. The SPNM course integrates interactive classroom sessions with structured and informal small-group sessions, addressing three key objectives:
1) understanding core management concepts;
2) applying these concepts strategically; and
3) learning how to implement change within the organization.
The PMNO program is structured to help conceptualize and design the systems and processes necessary to measure and achieve desired performance. Additional information, application forms, and dates for both courses will soon be available online at www.hbs.edu.
Criteria Criteria for selection by the Harvard Business School Club of Atlanta include:
1. The applicant must work for a nonprofit organization that serves the community-at-large, as opposed to a member-serving organization such as an industry or trade association.
2. The applicant must be the chief executive officer, executive director, or other highly ranked official, who has a knowledgeable perspective of and substantial responsibility for strategic planning, operations, organizational advancement, or development.
3. The organization must have a demonstrated and broad impact on the community, an experienced management team, a need to improve its skills and opportunities, and the commitment to take advantage of the experience received at Harvard.
4. The individual must have a desire to improve his/her personal skills and performance, be capable of performing well in a rigorous classroom environment, and meet the criteria for acceptance by Harvard Business School’s Executive Education Program.
5. Awards will be made to executives representing organizations of a range of sizes, typically no smaller than 10 or no larger than 200 employees, with substantial operations in the greater Atlanta metropolitan area.
