Georgia Gives Day
Each year bigger than the last, we're building a giving movement in Georgia Gives Day, powering community nonprofits statewide. On November 17, 2016—our state’s fifth annual day of giving—we once again proved the power of the Georgia Gives Day vision and the partnerships that made it possible, raising a record-breaking $3.9 million, and more than $12 million to date.
Launched by GCN in 2012, Georgia Gives Day is a unique, all-online fundraising initiative built for nonprofits and fueled by a large statewide coalition of corporations and foundations, government officials, media partners and volunteers.
Each fall, tens of thousands of Georgians come together to support their most cherished causes. While Georgia Gives Day is all about raising as much money as possible for nonprofits in 24 hours, GCN has worked to strengthen Georgia's nonprofits through this initiative in many other ways.
Raising the sector's profile
Beyond the very important dollars raised, Georgia Gives Day provides a special high-profile day each year to bring attention of the work and worth of Georgia's nonprofit sector as a whole in making our state a great place to live, work and play. Our media partnerships have proven key to spreading that message in print, on air, online, and on billboards through tens of millions of media impressions each year. "Whether you realize it or not, you live the arc of your life in nonprofits," notes GCN President and CEO Karen Beavor, and Georgia Gives Day provides a time each year to celebrate how our sector strengthens communities across the state.
We were thrilled to participate in Georgia Gives Day for a fourth year, increasing our donations from this campaign from less than $2,000 in 2013 to $172,000 in 2016! We are grateful to GCN for organizing this effort and raising awareness about giving opportunities to support our mission.

Arming nonprofits with fundraising tools and know-how
The GAgives.org platform is open all year for nonprofits to accept donations with a transaction fee among the lowest of similar initiatives nationwide. In fact, some nonprofits have reported this to be their first ever platform for online giving.
Through our yearly training schedule, we've assisted thousands of nonprofit staff with building out their campaign elements, marketing and communications, and even hosted national experts who are leading the way on researching online giving, still a relatively new phenomenon. Through a mix of newsletters, toolkits, webinars and live events, GCN provides nonprofits with the tools they need for Gives Day success.
Georgia Gives Day allowed us to celebrate a great victory for our students and with our students. Now an indispensable part of our annual fundraising campaign, it’s helped increase student involvement to more fully engage our donors and expand our reach to new audiences via social media.

Driving higher levels of giving
To date, GCN has secured nearly $1 million from generous corporate and foundation funders to incentivize nonprofits and donors to participate on Georgia Gives Day. From daylong giveaways such as our Power Hours and Golden Tickets, to special prizes for nonprofits atop our leaderboards, these incentive and prize funds provide an extra level of financial support to participating nonprofits, and make GA Gives Day a fun and exciting day for supporters to maximize their donations. Georgia Gives Day is an invaluable tool to help us strategically campaign, engage our networks, and create a spirit of giving. We've felt overwhelming support from GCN, SunTrust, exceeded our fundraising goals, and increased awareness of our mission and impact.
