Karen F. Beavor | President and CEO

As President and CEO of the Georgia Center for Nonprofits since 1998, Karen has led GCN’s growth into a leading state association empowering nonprofits through education, advocacy, research, consulting and business support services. Karen has served as a board member or advisory board member of a variety of civic and nonprofit organizations including the Unemployment Services Trust; National Nonprofit Risk Management Center; and The Foundation Center–Atlanta. Karen has received the Martin Luther King Leadership award and the Harvard Business School Club of Atlanta’s Community Leader Award. She is a member of the 2000 class of Leadership Atlanta and 2003 Coca-Cola Diversity Leadership Academy, and a graduate of Agnes Scott College.

 

Edward H. Shartar | Chair, Board of Directors

Edward Shartar was announced as the chair of the GCN Board of Directors in July 2013 upon the end of Debbie Gehricke's tenure, and will serve in that position from 2013-2015.  Ed is Partner at Acadia Associates and provides executive and board search service to for-profit and nonprofit institutions.  Prior to his career in the search industry, Ed was president and CEO of Experient, Inc., one of the largest meeting and event services company in North America, spent more than 12 years at The Coca-Cola Company, where he was president of Coca-Cola Ltd. (Canada), and served as VP and senior banker at Citicorp.  Ed is a board member and officer of the Harvard Business School Club of Atlanta, leading their Social Enterprise Initiative. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School and BA, Phi Beta Kappa, from Emory University.  He is a second generation native of Atlanta and has lived across the United States, in London and Toronto.  Ed and wife Teresa have four sons.
