Highlights include: There were 837,027 charitable nonprofits in the United States, excluding foundations and religious congregations in 2003, an increase of 68 percent from 1993. Also, 288,150 charitable nonprofits had gross receipts of over $25,000 in 2003 and filed IRS Form 990 in 2003. According to the The World Factbook, the asset base of the sector would make the “nonprofit economy” the sixth largest in the world--larger than the economies of Brazil, Russia, Canada, Mexico, and South Korea. President Bush signed a bill amending the employment rights mandated by USERRA. The new act extends coverage up to 24 months (formerly 18) for employees called to active duty. Whether or not you have employees serving in the uniformed services, the Department of Labor requires you to post this notice in your workplace.
