In winter and spring 2008, GCN can help your nonprofit with several aspects of fundraising. Sign up for these workshops in our schedule, below:

  • Researching Potential Funding Sources (the Online Foundation Directory)
  • Grant Writing – Basics and Advanced
  • Putting Together An Annual Resource Development Plan
Grant Writing Session I, The Basics
This workshop is designed for the nonprofit staff person with little or no grant writing experience. This in-depth workshop covers all the basics of how to craft an effective and fundable proposal. Relevant to proposal writing for foundations, government agencies and corporations, topics will include organizing information and needs, reviewing proposal format and components, and understanding the process to ascertain and meet funders' proposal needs.

Date: Tues. Feb.5, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Camden-Kings Bay Chamber of Commerce, 2603 Osborne Road, Suite R, St. Marys
Fee: $80 for GCN members; $95 for non-members; Register by February 1st

Grant Writing Session II, Hands-On Grant Writing Project
You will apply what you've learned from Session I to write a grant proposal, with the assistance of our instructors. It is recommended that you complete the How to Use the Online Foundation Directory of Grants workshop (see above) prior to this workshop, to identify specific grants you wish to pursue.

Date: Tues. Feb. 19, 2008, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Resource Development: Putting Together an Annual Plan*
*Prerequisite: completion of the Nonprofit Management & Leadership Series Resource Development workshop
In the Nonprofit Management & Leadership Series Resource Development workshop, we reviewed techniques for acquiring new donors to broaden your funding base, as well as effective strategies for renewing and upgrading donor support. We also discussed the different types of resource development available for different levels of maturation of a nonprofit organization. In this second session, we will assist you in applying this information to the development of an annual fundraising plan that is practical and achievable for your organization, based on where you are today.

Date: Tues., Mar. 11, 2008, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The Community Events program provides free tickets to non-profit organizations that support people with disabilities or those who are low income. Council of Volunteer Administrators (COVA) meets monthly on the 1st Wednesday of the month from 9 to 10:00am at Senior Citizens Inc., 3025 Bull Street in Savannah. COVA is a network of volunteer administrators. The organization provides technical assistance, facilitates resource development and advocates volunteerism in the community.
