Board meetings that aren’t effectively managed dilute the effectiveness of the board and the commitment and enthusiasm of its members. Boards that engage in productive discussion also need to be able to handle conflict and disagreement as part of their meetings. Conflict resolution skills provide a framework for resolving discussions and disagreements with civility. Participants will leave this workshop with an understanding of the ground rules of board meeting management, knowledge of the role of the board chair in conducting the meeting, tips for keeping meetings on track and managing participation, exposure to strategies for presenting and/or clarifying points of view and for achieving outcomes, and exposure to the concepts of how to build consensus.
