Ask The Expert 10-21-2007

Q. What is one important takeaway from the Key Facts Report and why?

A. One important takeaway is that Georgia grantmakers are supportive of the nonprofit sector even when their assets suffer from a volatile economy.  In spite of a decline in total assets, grantmaking by Georgia foundations rose 15.2 percent between 2000 and 2005.

Another important takeaway is the continued growth in foundations in Georgia. Half of all Georgia foundations have been established since 1994. Historically, foundations reach their peak in assets and giving approximately 20 years after establishment. If this holds true in Georgia, we can look forward to increased foundation grantmaking over the next two decades.
