One-on-One with Victoria Kingsland - Nonprofit University Manager

How do you directly serve the members of GCN?

As Nonprofit University Manager, I provide training that is geared toward all types and sizes of nonprofits- small, medium, and large through Nonprofit University.  We have four distinct executive leadership programs that service the needs of various nonprofits in Georgia.  CEO Central 60 is for larger nonprofit leaders with budgets greater than $1 million, and CEO Central 100 is for leaders of smaller nonprofits.  We also offer CFO Central for financial executives and the new High Potential Diverse Leaders Program.

Is there anything new coming up for Nonprofit University?

In the very near future, we are offering several new certificate programs in different areas to include, Human Resources, Finance and Information Technology. One of our ongoing partnerships is with AFP (Association with Fundraising Professionals). We are offering a 5 part series in Essentials of Fundraising that covers from Starting A Development Program to Individual and Major gifts, which is on the schedule for the end of January. This is a really exciting time for GCN to be able to address training needs of the nonprofit community throughout the state on a totally different level.

What is your background before coming to the Center?

I attended the American Indian College, Sinte Gleska, before completing both my B.A. in Political Science and my M.S. in Public Administration with honors at Columbus State University.  I’ve spent most of my professional life in the nonprofit sector, where I’ve served as Executive Director of literacy programs and programs dealing with domestic violence.  I’ve also worked as an educator at the college level in Continuing Education programs with a focus on women’s issues and adult re-entry programs.

What do you think is the most pressing issue for nonprofits right now?

Right now, I think the most important issue is for nonprofits to be able to recruit and retain skilled and talented staff members that already have the passion for the mission but need the skills to do the job.  By offering our new Human Resources certificate program, we hope that GCN will be able to help nonprofits with this issue.

What do you like the most about your job?

I really like that I get the opportunity to network with other nonprofits, listen to their needs and to match them with our services.

What’s a fun fact about you?

I love music and I’m a huge Bob Dylan fan!
