Press Release
New Study Gives Nonprofit Employers Competitive Edge
Salary Survey Numbers Released for Georgia Nonprofits
Atlanta, GA - 8/24/2004 -
A new study by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits gives guidance to nonprofit employers who want to offer competitive salaries and benefits to their employees.
The Georgia Nonprofit Wage & Benefit Report, which offers the most comprehensive look, to date, at nonprofit employment practices, includes data on compensation, benefits, perquisites and employment policies at nonprofit employers across the state.
According to Georgia Center for Nonprofits Executive Director Karen Beavor, the study has implications for nonprofits eager to find and keep strong employees. “We encourage nonprofit employers to use the report to gauge how they are doing in terms of compensation. When organizations can attract and retain highly qualified staff, they are better able to thrive—and in turn, to meet their important missions."
Beavor also says the report is key to helping the public better understand the nonprofit industry. "The nonprofit sector performs vital services to communities, and we need to attract and retain the best and brightest employees,” Beavor says. “It’s hard to do that when we’re challenged to do more with less. It’s important for everyone—including our clients and community leaders—to know where nonprofits stand in terms of compensation.”
The report represents employment figures for 168 nonprofit organizations in Georgia representing 4,934 employees, with annual operating revenues ranging from $20,000 to $32 million; it provides statistical summaries for 95 different positions. Salary data are segmented by organizations’ budget size, service type and number of employees, and by employees’ educational requirements, gender and tenure.
The report is part of the Center’s ongoing research on Georgia’s nonprofit sector and is a complement to the organization’s nonprofit jobs Web site, OpportunityKnocks.org, says Beavor.
The Georgia Nonprofit Wage & Benefit Report may be purchased from the Georgia Center for Nonprofits by visiting www.gcn.org (Click on ‘Services,’ then ‘Research,’ then 'Georgia Reports').
The report is $45 for Center members and $65 for nonmembers. Members of the media may request a free copy by contacting Laura Caligan at 678-916-3005 or at lc@gcn.org.
