Verizon Wireless Funds Technology Programs for Nonprofits

Atlanta, Georgia - 11/15/2004 -

The Georgia Center for Nonprofits announced today that it has received a $20,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation in support of its technology programs for nonprofits in Georgia. The grant will go toward providing technology resources—including hands-on training, educational programs, and consulting—to organizations across metro Atlanta.

“We’ve heard time and again from our members and other nonprofits that they need the appropriate technology, along with the skills to use it, in order to stay efficient and effective. It affects everything they do—from program delivery to fund-raising,” says Center President and CEO Karen Beavor. “That’s why Verizon Wireless’s grant means so much. By helping us meet nonprofits’ technology needs, Verizon Wireless is, in fact, helping to build a stronger nonprofit sector in Georgia.”

Verizon is also a sponsor, along with IBM, BellSouth, and Delta Air Lines, of the Center’s Dot Org: The Southeastern Nonprofit Technology Conference, which will be held on November 17 in Atlanta.

“Verizon Wireless is committed to the communities in which we live, work and conduct business,” said Jim McGean, president of Verizon Wireless Georgia/Alabama region.  “We are happy to help these valuable nonprofit organizations secure the technology they need to succeed. Their programs provide a valuable service to the entire community in a variety of ways.”
