The Georgia Center for Nonprofits will convene nonprofit, business and government leaders to address public policy and legislative issues affecting charitable work at its Pastries & Policy breakfast on Feb. 16.
The program will include an overview of legislation affecting nonprofits as a sector as well as a run-down of key policy issues affecting specific types of nonprofits.
Speakers will include Trey Childress, directory of policy, Gov. Sonny Perdue's Office; Michael Gerber, president, Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education; Stan Jones, partner, Nelson Mullins; Jane Nichols, president and CEO, Goodwill Southern Rivers; John Sibley, president, The Georgia Conservancy; Shelton Stanfill, president and CEO, Woodruff Arts Center; and Gaye Smith, executive director, Family Connection Partnership.
New data on Georgia's nonprofits
At the event the Center will release its sixth annual Georgia Nonprofit Sector Report, which gives the latest available data on the size and scope of the state's nonprofit industry. The study shows the number of nonprofits statewide and gives a county-by-county breakdown of nonprofit assets and revenues.
Key findings
- There are 6,066 charitable nonprofits in Georgia with budgets of at least $25,000.
- The 1,263 foundations in Georgia held almost $8.3 billion in assets and gave $675.8 million in grants.
- The average charitable deduction for itemizing taxpayers in Georgia was $3,505—about 4 percent of their incomes.
