Press Release

James Carville to Speak to Community Leaders

Georgia Nonprofit Summit set for June 3

Atlanta, GA - 5/15/2003 - On Tuesday, June 3, leaders from Georgia's nonprofit, business and government sectors will meet in Atlanta for the 12th annual Georgia Nonprofit Summit. Presented by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, the Summit will offer presentations and workshops that explore ways the nonprofit sector can weather crises and innovate solutions to community problems. James Carville, political consultant and cohost of CNN's Crossfire, will deliver the keynote address.

"Now more than ever, the nonprofit sector is at a defining moment of converging pressures and decreasing capacity," says Karen Beavor, executive director of the Georgia Center for Nonprofits. "Our collective response to tough choices will define our sector for the foreseeable future in terms of its credibility, accountability, and leadership position in society.

This year's Summit will explore the factors that are defining our work and strategic interests, and will press us to define our moment, rather than have it define us."

Fifteen workshops will cover current trends, innovative management practices and important policy issues for nonprofits. Topics include:

  • Forming effective public-private partnerships
  • Keeping nonprofits relevant in a changing South
  • Responding to Georgia's social-services crisis
  • Using online strategies to improve nonprofit effectiveness

Other highlights include a panel discussion, "War & Peace: A Dialogue on American Democracy and Our Place in the World"; 15 issue roundtables led by community leaders; and a luncheon keynote, "James Carville Looks at American Politics."

Event sponsors include Bank of America, Delta Air Lines, and UPS.
