Choi President of the Board of DirectorsMr. Choi, a partner resident in the Atlanta office of Troutman Sanders LLP, practices in the area of corporate law with a concentration in bond financing. Mr. Choi has experience in tax-exempt and taxable bonds, project financing, economic incentives, commercial lending, structured finance and private equity transactions. He has represented large financial institutions, nationally recognized investment banking firms, governmental entities, nonprofit corporations and technology companies.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Choi practiced with another firm in the areas of law related to tax-exempt organizations and municipal bonds.
A member of the State Bar of Georgia, Mr. Choi serves on the Board of Governors for the State Bar. He also serves on several nonprofit and volunteer organizations. He served as general counsel to the International Women’s House, and was a former President of the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation. Mr. Choi has been on the board of the Georgia Center for Nonprofits for the past five years serving as Treasurer and currently Chairperson. He is the current Past-President of the Georgia Asian Pacific Bar Association. He is also on the board of directors of the Association of Black Cardiologists, Inc. and the Atlanta Legal Diversity Consortium. He was a founding member of the Korean-American Professional Association and has held positions of leadership with that organization. Mr. Choi is a member of the American Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association, and the National Association of Bond Lawyers. He is graduate of Leadership Atlanta, Class of 2001. He has also been selected as a Georgia Rising Star by Law & Politics and Atlanta Magazine for 2005 and 2006.
Prior to law school, Mr. Choi was Special Assistant for Health and Human Services for the then Governor Bill Clinton in his home state of Arkansas. He served in that capacity from October 1988 to December 1999.
Mr. Choi received a Juris Doctor, with distinction, from Emory University School of Law in 1993. During law school, he was awarded the Tax Award and the Local Government Award. He was also a member of the International Law Society. In 1990, Mr. Choi studied at the Yonsei University Korean Language Institute in Seoul, South Korea. In 1988, Mr. Choi earned a Bachelor of Arts in the History and Literature of Religions, with honors, from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Mr. Choi is married and has three children and served as a deacon at North Avenue Presbyterian Church.
