The awards luncheon will be held on April 10, 2010 at the Omni Hotel and is included for Summit attendees. Tickets for the luncheon only are available for $60.00, please contact ln@gcn.org to order.

“The purpose of these awards is to acknowledge, recognize and celebrate revolutionary and innovative leaders and organizations within Georgia’s nonprofit sector. These individuals and organizations are the ones that inspire and motivate us everyday. These are the people that remind us why we do the work we do!” says Karen Beavor, President and CEO of the Georgia Center for Nonprofits.

These honors will be bestowed to the following:

2010 Evelyn G Ullman Innovative Leadership Award to Kathy Colbenson, Chief Executive Officer of CHRIS Kids, for her direct impact on an often overlooked community issue: young people aging out of the foster care system.  Kathy skillfully directed CHRIS Kids through changes in state funding, expanding fund-raising efforts and managing a strong portfolio of services that reach more than 1,000 children and families each year.  CHRIS Kids Independent Living Program produces significant positive outcomes in their population served including a high employment rate of youth, demonstration of life skills improvement, and completion of highschool/GED and college attendance.   Summit Trail, a permanent housing community for youth who grew up homeless or in foster care, is an example of Kathy’s innovative leadership when she identified an old apartment complex and secured funding to completely renovate and create residences for 39 youth.  Summit trail will teach these youth to take control in a new environment and help them to be independent, productive and contributing citizens.

2010 Revolutions Award for Outstanding Nonprofit Organization to Camp Twin Lakes for revolutionizing accessible camping in Georgia. Prior to the establishment of Camp Twin Lakes in 1993, programs for kids with special medical and physical needs were not adaptable or accessible.  Camp Twin Lakes camps have transformed more than 25,000 campers by teaching new skills and life lessons such as management of their daily treatments or diets; mobility challenges; stress; as well as self-esteem activities and peer support building strong and confident campers.  Through collaboration with more than 40 partners, Camp Twin Lakes annually provides high-quality experiences to more than 8,500 campers and engaging 2,000 volunteers.

2010 Revolutions Award for Outstanding Nonprofit Leader to Suzanne Boas, President of Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Atlanta for her transformation of Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Atlanta (CCCS) from a small, local community agency into a national nonprofit recognized for innovation and measurable results. Suzanne transformed the agency into a national financial literacy powerhouse by investing in technology and embracing new ideas. Utilizing telephone and Internet technology, CCCS serves people nationwide 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  In 2009, the agency provided foreclosure prevention counseling to more than 105,000 homeowners, which translates to more than 70,000 families avoiding foreclosure.
